Jay Hutchinson, a sculptor and painter, used to live at 23 Flagg Street. When Christina Wylie moved to New York, she was able to get the Wylie half of the house. Now we share the driveway and the backyard. We occasionally have wine or coffee in one or the other kitchen, but generally our lives don't spill into each other's. Jay put in the grass, the vegetables, and most of the flowerbeds. I've planted perennials, day lilies I dug out of the ground in Cherry Valley with Peter Orlovsky, a mimosa now twenty-two inches high, and five bleeding hearts.
